DraStic : Nintendo DS Emulator For Android

Drastic

Hi, today we are going to try for the first time a Nintendo DS emulator that many of the users has asked about the proper way to configure and run it. Like the previous tutorials,i will try to make it as clear as possible Winking including a snapshot for every step so you wouldn't get confused Confused.

  1. Requirements :

First, lets list the necessary tools to play games on our phones :
    • DraStic : First, we need to install the emulator on our android devices, here is the link of the app on android app store : DraStic. it’s not free Money Eyes and the price is quite high comparing to other NDS emulators but what makes it worth it that it runs the games at full speed.
    • Any Emulator BIOS : This is the best app ever Tongue and it happens to be mine, we will need it to generate a file called BIOS which is necessary to run the PlayStation games, here is the link for the app : Any Emulator BIOS, it’s free by the way Dont tell anyone.
Time out “ A what?? a BIOS?? what the heck is a BIOS file?? ”
Nerd “ BIOS - that is the shortcut for Basic Input/Output System : that's there the name comes from! You can think of a BIOS as a set of instructions to jump start the Emulator .Without it, you will not be able to play the games.”
Chatterbox“ Enough with the BLAA BLAA BLAA!! ME WANNA PLAY!!Angry

Time out “ Once you got the games (ROM File) make sure  it’s isn’t an archive file (archive file name ends with .7Z or .RAR or .ZIP), if that’s the case, you need to extract the ROM file first, here is a small tutorial about extracting ROM files How to extract ROM files
  1. Generating the BIOS file :

After installing the app Any Emulator BIOS, launch the app from the home screen :
    Drastic

Select Nintendo DS Bios from the list then press browse :

    Drastic

Now we choose where to generate the BIOS file, click the "Browse" Button and choose the folder download just under the root of your internal storage (External Storage if you have an SDcard), btw, it’s the same place where i put the game file, so I don’t have to look in a different places later Winking :

  2. Drastic
    Drastic

After specifying where to generate the BIOS file, click “Generate Bios Files” :

    Drastic

Once done, use a file manager to verify that the BIOS files were successfully generated, a folder called Nintendo DS BIOS should be created under the folder“Download”:

    Drastic

within it, we can find the BIOS files (3 files as shown below) :

    Drastic

If you try launching the emulator at this stage, DraStic will tell you that it cannot find the BIOS I dont know.

Usually the developers of the emulators application gives you the option to specify the BIOS path. But this wasn’t the case for DraStics developers Whistling, nope, their app will only look for the BIOS file right under the folder “Download”.

Since, the generated bios files are now under a folder called “Nintendo DS Bios”, we just need to move them to the parent folder “Download”, For this am going to use my default file manager in my Galaxy S2 (if you don’t have a file manager installed, try ES File Explorer File Manager and try to do the same steps).

First browse to the folder “Download”  then open the folder “Nintendo DS Bios” where you can see the 3 BIOS files : biosnds7.rom, biosnds9.rom and firmware.bin :

    Drastic

now select those 3 files to move them :

    Drastic

And paste them under the folder “Download” :

    Drastic

And that’s it, that wasn’t hard I guess Whew, the BIOS files are ready, now we can proceed to the next step.
  3. Configuring the emulator & running the games :

At this point, we have the bios files and the ROM file (game), for my case it’s “New Super Mario Bros. (US).nds” located under /storage/sdcard0/download (this path may vary with the phone type or the android version).
Now we need to install the emulator and launch it :
    Drastic

At the home screen of the emulator, select “load new game” :

Now browse to the folder where the ROM files (games) are stored (for my case it’s “Download”  ) :

    Drastic

Now you just have to select the game file to start the game :

And that’s it Whew, now you can enjoy playing your Nintendo DS games on your phone Dancing. I hope it was clear, see you again in another tutorial and please don’t forget Dohto rate our app Any Emulator BIOS.
